2010 October 28 – Picnic at Oak Mountain State Park
WEST END HIGH SCHOOL, JUNIOR & SENIOR Class of 1953, Celebrates Picnic in the Park
Thursday, October 28, 2010, Oak Mountain State Park was the setting for the 57th class reunion/picnic of the WEHS Junior and Senior Class of 1953. It was a beautiful autumn day with classmates coming together and sharing their memories of WEHS days and the years that have passed since then. A memorabilia table was covered with memory books and posters filled with pictures of classmates early years at West End High School, past reunions, and pictures of West End as we knew it in the fifties.
Decorations were a combination of the old school colors and Halloween. Floral centerpieces and table settings reflected school colors of orange and blue. Name tags pictured each attendee with their class pictures from 1953. The centerpiece on the dessert table was a sheet cake decorated in school colors and picturing the school as it stood in 2009. Appetizers, BBQ and trimmings, cold drinks, hot chocolate, marshmallows, coffee, desserts and a large pumpkin filled with chocolate trick or treats were all a part of the goodies served.
Entertainment was provided by a lovely young up-and-coming artist, Bonner Black, granddaughter of Dick Black, a WEHS graduate/classmate. Bonner and her Dad, Rick Black traveled from Fayetteville, TN to be with the group. Bonner was a real delight, performing on acoustic guitar and singing her own compositions. We hope to be hearing much more from this talented singer/songwriter in the future.
