THE REUNION, a poem by Bob Nelson ’52
The Reunion
The handshakes, the hugs.
How are you doing?
The anticipated day is here.
The stories, the adventures,
Where life has been.
Is that fried chicken for lunch?
Grandmas, and grandpas
Time to take a snooze.
Can we really be that old?
The handshakes, the hugs,
The long goodbyes, the tears,
The fears, tomorrow’s not promised.
The dusk, the darkness,
Emptiness saturates the air.
The treasured day is gone, gone.
