I remember Miss Hilleke’s bemused expression when she found herself teaching some of Miss Praytor’s Latin courses when that outspoken, rational lady got into trouble over a comment on The Bible. Spanish may have been Miss Hilleke’s preferred subject, but she was a good enough Latin teacher that I can still remember much of what she taught us. Give me a vocabulary even now, and I’m good to go.
