Memories – About The School And Events

Here’s what we remember about the school and events

From LaffinAllTheWay:

I remember the smell of the exhaust when the guys with the clunkers ran outside after school and started them up. I remember trying to bribe somebody to get me a hall pass so I could meet my girl during class. And necking in the band practice rooms with the same girl, a clarinet player I think.  And those desserts in the lunchroom that started out OK on Monday and got soggier during the week.

From SchoolGirl57:

Remember Driver’s Ed in the basement in the area with the tamped dirt floors (can I be remembering that right?)? And those sad stories about the teenagers who’d never live to grow up because they raced the train, ran the light, drove too fast, etc.?

Remember the Armistice Day Parades downtown? The little kids rode on floats (I remember a stint as a fairy tale character – Little Miss Muffet, as I recall, in a pink brocade dress with long curly ringlets), but we big kids who played in the band had to march, whatever the weather. I remember being so cold that I could no longer feel my fingers, which actually turned blue. (The ring finger on my left hand has been a perfect temperature detector ever since, turning first lilac and then white as the temp drops below freezing!)

Remember the watery cocoa at Legion Field, and the GooGoo clusters?

Remember how uncomfortable the band uniforms were – freezing in cold winter, stifling in warm, and scratchy all the time – not to mention that odd smell that not all the dry cleaning in the world could get out?
