SOCIAL MEDIA SPECIALIST – FULL TIME

JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for enhancing Birmingham Public Library's online presence by engaging with its target audience, creating high-quality content, and driving awareness of agency activities and career and employment opportunities through various social media platforms. Executes social media campaigns including planning, scheduling, and optimizing content for maximum effectiveness. They utilize analytics tools to track, analyze, and report on key performance indicators to increase visibility, reach, and engage across various social media platforms. Social Media Specialists also create and execute recruitment strategies to attract and engage potential candidates for career opportunities. Incumbents design, plan, and manage all social media and digital marketing content, including website graphics, system graphics, social media, electronic marketing materials, and occasional printed marketing materials. This position reports to the Central Public Service Manager.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
  • Designs, plans, and executes all social media and digital marketing content, including websites, system graphics, social media, electronic marketing materials, and occasionally printed marketing materials.
  • Creates and executes effective recruitment strategies using social media platforms to attract and engage potential candidates by creating and managing social media campaigns, posting job advertisements, and promoting Birmingham Public Library.
  • Creates and curates professional, engaging, and high-quality social media content (e.g., posts, images, videos, infographics) by tailoring to different social media channels and target audiences and ensuring content complies with branding identity and visual standards
  • Develops and executes social media campaigns and strategies, including planning, scheduling, and optimizing content for maximum effectiveness by utilizing analytics tools to track, analyze, and report on key performance indicators (e.g., reach, engagement, conversions, customer feedback) to increase the visibility, reach, and engagement across various platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn) for the Birmingham Public Library.
  • Manages social media accounts, including posting schedules, engaging with target audiences, responding to comments and messages, and fostering meaningful interactions with followers and customers to boost social media engagement and promote Birmingham Public Library Services
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, emerging platforms, best practices, and relevant legal and ethical guidelines for social media marketing in order to ensure compliance and mitigate risks.
  • Establishes relationships and communications with internal departments, stakeholders, and industry professionals, particularly with the Birmingham Public Libraries, in order to identify opportunities to broaden shared social media content to ensure awareness of shared content and coordinate posting activity.
  • Attends and promotes activities and events hosted by Birmingham Public Library in order to produce recorded and live social media content and to support and leverage the events for marketing efforts.
DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS
  • Knowledge of industry standard tools for planning and evaluating social media campaigns.
  • Knowledge of the practices, methods and techniques of graphic design and layout.
  • Knowledge of branding strategies.
  • Knowledge of modern recruiting practices and current issues within the field of recruiting (e.g., social networking, social media, internet search engines, etc.).
  • Knowledge of the uses and application of graphic arts software (e.g., Canva, Adobe, Photoshop, Quark Express, and Illustrator). 
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position may include morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend hours, including Sundays.  Employees may be required to adapt to future schedule and location changes depending on library needs.  May involve occasional light lifting of items or objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Social Media Marketing/Management, Digital Media/Marketing, Graphic Design, or a highly related degree from an accredited four-year college or university and at least one year experience using social media management tools and managing a content calendar to post content to social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn.  Experience in creating and delivering content (e.g., text, image, and video) for social media platforms using graphic design editing platforms (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite).

  • 80 hours biweekly, Grade 22 - Salary range: $47,798.40 - $74,152.00 (starting salary is commensurate with education and experience)
